For All!
Hello, I'm Kevin.
Everyone who
has had a drinking problem knows that it
can have a terrible impact
on your life
and your loved ones.
I hope you've decided to quit drinking. That's
why
I've created this special page within
the site to advise on
how how to stop
drinking and change your life for the
better - once and
for all.

If
you have a drinking
problem, you may be here on this
website because
you have
decided
to quit drinking. I hope so,
being dependent
on alcohol can be
a devestating condition. It
impacts your
family, your health
and your finances. It's
never easy to
admit
that your
drinking has devolved
into a problem, but as they say
- recognizing the
problem is the
first step toward recovery. |
|
Quitting drinking by yourself can be a
challenging process. Chances
are you've
tried it before, and it didn't work
for you.
Some 12-step programs, like AA
(Alcoholics Anonymous), are very
effective, but
depending on what kind
of drinker you are, they may not
be enough. For
some, the process of
going through alcohol detox is very
uncomfortableand is better attempted
with medical supervision to keep
you comfortable and healthy.
In some cases an alcohol and drug
rehab center can be your best bet for
professional support and
fast solutions. They'll help you quit
drinking in a
medically supervised
environment, with
trained counselors to help support you
through the process. This can be a
powerful way to get rid of
your drinking
problem once and for all.
If you do decide to address your
drinking in this way, check around
with
several programs to see the variety of
services they offer. Are their
programs in-patient or out-patient?
How long dothey last? Will you have
to miss work? (It's okay
if you do,
this could be the best "vacation" you
ever took!)
Also make sure that you've lined up
some sort of support for yourself
after
the alcohol detox
process. Changing your daily habits
and schedule canbe crucial so you
avoid social triggers that may tempt
you to drink. Don't drive past that
bar on the way home from work. Empty
out the liquor cabinet. Don't hang
out with your old drinking buddies.
Alcoholism is a serious disease, but
with a serious approach, you can
quit
drinking! |

"How Do You Know If You Have A Drinking Problem?"
This may be one of those
questions where... if you have
to ask, you
don't want to know
the answer! If you've ever
thought maybe
you had better quit
drinking, because the effects of
alcohol were
starting to have a
negative impact on your life,
that may be an
excellent idea to
look into...
now is a great time to quit
drinking! |
|
If you are a heavy daily drinker, you may need a
doctor's supervision to
quit drinking -
the detox process can be very hard on
your body, and
there are things medical
professionals can do to help you.
If you are more of an "occassional
drinker" you may still have a
drinking
problem if you find yourself drinking
to excess every time you
go out.
If this is the case, one of the most
important things you can do is
change
your environment to limit the triggers
that cause you to drink. For example,
don't go to parties, bars, or over to
friends houses where drinking is one of
the primary activities.
If you must go to a wedding or another
event where alcohol is being
served,
recruit an accountability partner who
will attend the event
with you and help
you keep your committment to not
drink and stay
sober.
To get over your drinking problem,
it's important to have the right
frame
of mind about your alcholism. Focus
on the negative
aspects of drinking and
the positive aspects of not
drinking. Trite though it may sound,
keeping a journal of your
feelings about
drinking (and your
decisions to drink or not drink) may
help you uncover some of the underlying
causes of your drinking problem.
Whether or not you know "why" you
drink, it's important to realize
thateach time you drink, it's a
choice. Have a plan to help you
make a
different choice the next time the
urge to drink strikes.
It's never too late to quit drinking! I

Will alcohol detoxification be a problem?
If you have a
serious drinking problem and exhibit chronic
alcohol abuse, it may be unwisefor you to quit
drinking on your own. Going cold turkey can
give
you "the shakes," create hallucinations and
anxiety, and even
result in death. This is not to
say that you should not try
to quit drinking, but
look into a rehab center with medical support if
you are concerned about having these alcohol detox
effects when you go through withdrawal. |
|
If you've been using alcohol heavily enough to produce these symptoms,
it'sclearly having an extremely deleterious affect on
your liver, heart, and many of your body's vital systems.
Although you may have started drinking occassionally for
fun, to fit in with friends, or to avoid
focusing on mental or emtional problems,
alcohol is not a fun friend.
it is a poison and it may be killing
you. It's time to
quit.
Thousands of other people who thought it would be
impossible to quit drinking, have found solid, reliable,
and lasting ways to beat their alcoholism.
Consider joining AA, going to an alcohol rehab center,
talking to your pastor at church, or consulting with your
doctor to find out what method of quitting will work best
for you. The most importantthing is that you keep
moving forward in your pursuit of this goal.
As a child, I had a friend - a little 8 year old girl -
who was killed in a car crash while driving home from
buying me a birthday present. Her father was so
devestated he killled himself a few weeks
later. Alcohol
can ruin lives.
Even if you consider yourself a responsible drunk -
alcohol is still ruining one important life - yours. If
you have a drinking problem, please get help and quit.
Now. |

How are your family and friends affected by your drinking? If you're
married, have kids, or are just that guy who goes
a little"overboard" at every social gathering,
chances are you're negatively impacting those
around with your drinking.
People who care about you may have even talked to
you about trying to "get you some help." Did you
listen? I hope so! You're here on this website looking for help, and
that's an
important first step.
Please take action and make a committment now, while the
iron is hot, to quit drinking for
good. Don't let another drink steal away your
impetus to make a change and address your drinking
problem.
Right now, while you're thinking about it, call someone
who cares about you and tell them you want to quit and
need their help. Call AA or a rehab center and find out
what will be involved in getting
their help to put your
drinking problem behind you.
As much as those around you probalby want you to quit,
they most likely recognize that they can't do it for you.
The desire and committment
to change forever must come from within you.
If that's how you're feeling now, please use this
opportunity to make a change in your life. Make a
committment that you can't back
down from to give
yourself a better future.
Living with a drinking problem is no way to live.
My grandfather was a lifelong alcoholic (probably due to
depression). He eventually took his own life,
devestating my grandmotherwho had stood by him through
all the hard years.
If you can't do it for yourself, make a committment for
the sake of those around you who love you, care about
you, and see you as a wonderful person, worthy of a
better life than what you've been giving
yourself in the
past.
